Product info — Attic Hatch Bulkhead

The attic access bulkhead is design to fit around a standard 22.5” wide by 54” long attic opening and is used when trusses or ceiling joists need to be cut. The bottom truss chord or the ceiling joists are under tensions and prevent the roof from spreading and the exterior walls from displacing outward. The bulkhead attaches to the sides of the bottom truss chords or ceiling joists and resists the spreading (pulling apart) loads that exist in the truss bottom chord or ceiling joists thereby maintain the strength and integrity of roof system. The attachment points slide on the rails making them easily adjustable to the Attic Hatch Bulkhead can be positioned anywhere you wish to have your attic hatch or pull down stairs. The Attic Hatch Bulkhead comes in pieces and is very easy and quick to assemble using standard tools. Position and secure the Attic Hatch Bulkhead first before cutting the trusses or ceiling joists. Custom sizes are also available.
